BJ gots choppa 'appy

I know, I know, it's been a LONG time since I posted anything.  Between work, and some not so pleasant health issues I've been kind of down for the count as far as the hobby goes.  Sooooo after relocating to San Antonio from Illinois I decided to start giving some time over to my very, very, very neglected Orks (Froz'n Wagh Klan).

So I have pretty much all the models I want for the army and it keeps it pretty much just under 1500 points depending on what wargear I use for the Warboss.  I've got 4 Warbosses (3 are AOBR, and then the FineCast Warboss with the Attack Squig) so depending if I decide to do any conversion work on the AOBR ones I shouldn't go over 1500 points.

Through various resources I came into posession of 3 full AOBR sets.  I know static poses, but not the way I build them, hehe (more on those conversions later).  That and I ended up with 12 AOBR Defkoptas.  Well I only plan on fielding 5 of them, so what to do, what to do...

Okay forgive the lack of WIP shots on HOW I did this, but here is the first Defkopta to Warbiker Nob conversion.

Bits used:

• Razorback twin-linked Heavy Bolters
• Space Marine Bike wheel
• Chimera bits
• Dozer Blade bits from an old Rhino
• Space Marine Land Speeder bits
• Green Stuff
• Plasticard

I started work on a second one, but then realized that my much needed SM Biker Wheels are no longer in my bits box...Hmmmm....KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BJ's Heli Madness continues

Okay so I'm almost finished with the repaint on the Syma S032, but I decided to put it all back together to see how the pieces will look and flow.  I still need to add some orange highlights to the scales with maybe some yellow on a few on the forehead (canopy) just for some decoration.  Mouth still needs some clean up around the teeth and I may add some "gums" just not sure yet.


LED looks cool coming out of the mouth (fire breathing dragon...LOL).


Haven't flown it yet as I still needs to take off the pieces and seal them.  I'm thinking two layers of gloss to give it a nice hard finish then matte to dull the shine a bit.

BJ's RC Heli Madness Continues Some More

Worked on the the S032 Canopy a little over the weekend in between working on the Infinity figures.

Here's what I've got so far...

Horns are done, eyes probably done, belly scales done.  Mouth still has a whole lot to finish as you can see and the scales are just the base layer of GW's Malichite Red and Scab Red.  I'm going to hit them with at least 3 more highlight layers.  Scales on the fins are done with the base layer as well, but my camera wouldn't focus on them for some reason.

BJs RC Heli Madness Continued

Okay so working on some concepts for the Syma S032 repaint.  This heli is commonly referred to as "Fiery Dragon" on some websites.  Soooooo, that pretty much sealed the design idea.  "The Red Dragon" it is.

So I decided to paint the canopy, landing struts, and the vertical and horizontal stabilizer fins.

RC Helicopter Distraction

Okay so my son's birthday came and went (thankfully I was actually not traveling for work for a change) and he got his first RC helicopter.  Then Dad loved it and had to go out and buy one...

and paint it because I hated the paint job. So here's my Air Hogs Havoc in flight with a simple repaint.

Sooo, what happened next?  I bought a couple 3.5 channels and a 4 channel to play with and my son said "Daddy, you know what would be REALLY TOTALLY AWESOME?" and Dad says "What buddy?"

"If you painted your new helicopter as the American Flag!"

Okay, hey I'm patriotic.  I'm a veteran.  I thought...Oooooooo

Not what I could consider my best work, but I tried to squeeze this in over a weekend in between working on another project.

So then we get the new birds in (okay maybe went a little heli happy) and he says, "Oooooo what about a dragon!?!"  He's killin me, he's really killin me.

Well I'm really busy with trying to get another project done right now, but I'll work out a design for the Syma S032 (funny its called the fire dragon) to turn it into a Red Dragon.  But I'm going to take it slow on it since I really need to get this Infinity Combined Army project finished up (pics on that later).

The other birds in the project list are a JXD 340 Drift King 4-Channel and a Double Horse 9103 Fixed Pitch 3.5-Channel.  Have no idea on what I'm going to do to them though.  Suggestions anyone?

PROJECT - Warmachine

Okay so it has been a while since I posted anything, but life (especially work) literally cut my hobby time down to nil.

So new Project - Warmachine,

WHAT?  DID BJ FALL OFF THE WAGON AND STOP DRINKING THE GW KOOLAID?????

No me and my Space Marines are very happy together and I love painting and playing them.  I've always loved the Privateer Press model lines and the background story for the Iron Kingdoms world is pretty cool.  My problem with them is that some of their earlier metal models were just so hard to put together and get to pin properly.

But their plastics are just awesome, the sculpts are clean and are just fun.  So I hopped on my favorite trading site (bartertown) and picked myself up some Protectorate of Menoth models and then headed over to my FLGS and added a box set to give me some stuff to play around with.

Now you all know me (well some of you do) and I have never been one of those guys who likes to follow standard color schemes.  This is probably my biggest complaint about the Warmachine universe is that the color schemes are so static that whenever someone tries to do something different it just "feels wrong."  While while I really like the holy crusader idea of the Protectorate (love Black Templars after all - hate the color scheme) I absolutes abhor painting white, and though I love painting blues and reds I don't want this force to be confused with a Khador or Cygnar (also like) force.

I'm leaning towards a Black/Blue scheme, but I'm not sure on that.  I need to think on a robe color that can go with it.

So look for some new pics and progress shots soon!

PROJECT - Terrain - Hexagon Construction Set Part III

Alright I'm closing up the project on the Pegasus Hobbies Hexagon Construction Set.  As I've said this has been a really cool kit to work with, and over all I'm really  pleased with how the project has turned out.  Remember folks this was the "small" kit and it's a pretty big terrain piece.  I'm definitely going to get my hands on the "large" kit.

I also did a couple of quick pieces with some "egg" crate packing foam I picked up at work so I thought I'd throw them in today's post as well.  Nothing like recycling CD's and CD/DVD spool protectors for some simple war-gaming terrain.

So without further adieu how about some pics huh?

And FINALLY!

Plans are to add some resin "mud" to the hexagon piece as while my base coat for the ground was drying it looked pretty cool as mud.  So I've still got to paint the border black, seal it with matte, then add the resin "puddles".

PROJECT: Terrain - Hexagon Construction Set - Part II

Well moving along with the Hexagon Construction Set.  Not much done other than finishing off adding texture to the base and then getting the thing primed.  Let me tell you this was a major pain to prime.  I ran out of Krylon Charcoal Gray while trying to spray this beast and knew I wasn't going to hit Wal-Mart anytime soon and wanted to get this piece further along so I can go back to finishing up some commission work that is getting close to the deadline.  Yes Brian and Bill I WILL be done soon.  ;-)


So to recap.

1. The base for the kit is a piece of laminate flooring I used my jigsaw on to create a nice shape.
2. The kit was assembled (it's a snap-to-fit kit) without superglue at first.
3. Kit was mounted to the base about halfway through full construction at which point I started to apply superglue (brush out Krazy-Glue ROCKS!) to the joints for stability and strength, then construction was completed.
4. Basing material added along with some sculpy rock formations I pulled from another project I scrapped.
5. Primed using Krylon Charcoal Gray and when I ran out, brush on mixture of black craft paint and the dark gray GW Foundation Charadon Granite paint...mental note, need to buy more of this now.
6. It's ready for paint!

So here we go...

 

I may go back and add some GW bits (eagles, seals, tabbards or perhaps some orky stuff) to make it more 40kish, but for the most part I'm happy.  The little pyramid in the top corner may get a gun turret added just for fun, but I'm not sure on that yet.

More once it's got paint on it!

REVIEW and PROJECT: Terrain - Hexagon Construction Set

  Well continuing my review of the Pegasus Hobbies Hexagon Construction Set.  Got it all put together, or at least how I envisioned it, and it only took me a couple of hours to get the pieces separated and then start assembly.  For the most part this kit assembles pretty easily.  Everything snaps together!  Though by the end of the day today my fingers hurt from pressing the pieces together.  This is truly a modular kit, but since I decided I was going to mount the structure on a piece of floor tile I went ahead and glued the majority of the structure together for added strength.

I really enjoyed putting this together, and it really was pretty easy. The kit has 4 different types of connectors for the various panels and pieces so one does need to take care in  what one you use.  I had to go back and disassemble (whoah just had a Short Circuit moment?  "No Disassemble Johnny 5!") because I found I needed something I used someplace else...

So as usual, I started assembly and totally forgot to shoot any "construction" shots.  Typical, must be getting old or something like that.  Well below are the shots of the fully assembled kit.  Like I said, it's pretty easy to do, and if one took the time to really study the pieces and the connectors you could go crazy in the build-out and be far more creative than I was.  Mine built out pretty close to the box cover though I did find that somewhere in the base construction I used some pieces that were needed more towards the top, and seeing as how I had glued those pieces down when I mounted the structure to the base half way through construction I was pretty much stuck with getting creative.

Here's the completed assembly, pre-primer, pre-finished based, pre-paint.  In other words, not finished.

Over all this is a great kit and addition to any sci-fi gamers table.  Can't wait to get started on the Platformer kit once I finish up a couple client projects.  May just have to order the "large" kit and see what I can come up with.

Next step is to finish the base, prime, then slap some paint on it.  Will post up the finals when I finish.
